EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass as a minister of the bread. For shut-ins, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist may also carry Holy Communion to the homebound in their home or nursing home.

Training to become an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is provided by our parish priests. The following are qualifications for a person to serve as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion in the Diocese of Covington. An extraordinary minister of Holy Communion must:

    1. be Catholic and have received all of the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist);
    2. live his or her life in such a way that their love for the Eucharist is evident by their regular participation in the Eucharistic liturgy;
    3. demonstrate acceptance of the teachings of the Church by his/her way of life;
    4. be adequately formed to carry out this ministry as the Church intends and take part in continuing formation through parish and/or diocesan workshops and/or retreats;
    5. be at least sixteen (16) years of age;
    6. not labor under a canonical penalty whether imposed or declared (e.g., not be in an invalid marriage or be a laicized cleric; see RS 168).

Pray about whether the Lord is calling you to be an EMHC and help distribute our Lord in Holy Communion at Mass! To learn more about becoming an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, please contact the parish office, 859-727-2035.
