Solemnity of Christ the King

On the last Sunday of each liturgical year, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, or Christ the King.

Pope Pius XI instituted this feast in 1925 with his encyclical Quas primas (“In the first”) to respond to growing secularism and atheism.  He recognized that attempting to “thrust Jesus Christ and his holy law” out of public life would result in continuing discord among people and nations. This solemnity reminds us that while governments come and go, Christ reigns as King forever.

Parish News

Thanksgiving Day Mass
All are invited to join us for Mass on Thanksgiving Day at 9:00 AM.

In Memoriam
Please pray for the family and friends of our beloved second grade teacher, Carrie Dwyer, whose funeral Mass was celebrated last week. We pray the God in His mercy will comfort all who knew and loved her.

Giving Trees
Our annual Giving Trees have been set up in church. This year, the following ministries have asked the parish for help: St. Vincent de Paul, Erlanger/Elsmere Family Resource Center, Holy Redeemer/Vanceburg, United Ministries/Be Concerned, Christian Volunteers, Cold Shelter/Fairhaven/Welcome House (blankets), and the Esperanza Latino Center.   Please return items on/before Sunday, December 5.  Please do not wrap gifts. Be sure to securely fasten the angel tag on your gift, as the yarn is the only way we have to identify which agency the gift needs to be returned to.

Baked Goods Needed this Week
Desserts for the Parish Kitchen are needed this week. Items can be dropped off at the parish office Monday/Tuesday between 9:00 AM-4:30 PM. If you are able to provide a new twin size blanket or sleeping bag for their guests, they can be dropped off this week as well.
