Tuesday, July 13, 2021

On July 13, 2021, Bishop Roger Foys announced his successor, the Very Rev. John C. Iffert, who will be ordained and installed as the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Covington on Thursday, September 30, 2021. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption.

Bishop Foys made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday morning and introduced Bishop-elect Iffert to staff and the media. You can watch the entire conference here.

The bishop-elect, age 53, joined the seminary in 1992 and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Belleville in southern Illinois in 1997. Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, describes him as having "great pastoral heart as well as excellent pastoral experience.” Most recently, he has served as vicar general and moderator of the curia in the Diocese of Belleville since October 1, 2020.

You can read more about our new bishop here. We look forward to welcoming him to our diocese and to St. Henry at a future date.

Thanks to Bishop Foys for his 19 years of dedicated leadership and service in shepherding us through what have been both exciting and remarkably challenging times. Let us remember him in our prayers as he enters into a well-deserved retirement.

The Messenger from the Diocese of Covington has several pages devoted to our bishop-elect as well.
