Announcing Our Bishop-Elect

On July 13, 2021, Bishop Roger Foys announced his successor, the Very Rev. John C. Iffert, who will be ordained and installed as the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Covington on Thursday, September 30, 2021. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption.
Bishop Foys made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday morning and introduced Bishop-elect Iffert to staff and the media. You can watch the entire conference here.
The bishop-elect, age 53, joined the seminary in 1992 and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Belleville in southern Illinois in 1997. Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, describes him as having "great pastoral heart as well as excellent pastoral experience.” Most recently, he has served as vicar general and moderator of the curia in the Diocese of Belleville since October 1, 2020.
