Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Christ leading the apostles to Mount Tabor; Lorenzo Lotto 1512

Sunday Connection

Matthew 10:37-42
Jesus outlines the costs and rewards of discipleship.

Today’s Gospel is the conclusion of the instructions and consolations that we have heard Jesus offering to his disciples during the past few weeks. In this passage, Jesus summarizes both the costs of discipleship and its rewards. Once again our understanding of the Gospel is strengthened by considering the context in which it was written and the perspective of Matthew’s audience. New Coordinator of Religious Education

Welcome Back! My name is Laura Ryan and I am happy to be returning to my former role as Coordinator of Religious Education at St. Henry Parish. Most of you know me and my family well, but for those who do not, my husband Kevin and I have been parishioners of St. Henry nearly all our lives. We both attended St. Henry Grade School and St. Henry District High School, and were married at St. Henry Church in 1998. We have six kids, all of whom attended St. Henry Grade School. The oldest currently works with Kevin at the family business, Ryan Muffler Center; the second oldest will be a freshman at Lewis University this fall; and the younger four will all be at St. Henry High School this year.  While I will miss my previous role as the junior high Religion teacher for St. Henry Grade School, I am excited and eager to return to the "parish office" side of our St. Henry community. As CRE, I will be directing our parish CCD program, overseeing sacramental preparation for our second and eighth graders, and will be working to bring opportunities for growing in faith for all of our parishioners. I will also be leading our youth ministry program for our younger parishioners in both middle school and high school. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to work for the parish where I grew up and that has been there for me as I raised my own family for the past 20 years. If you have any questions or suggestions for me, please email me at lryan@sthenrynky.com or call the parish office. God bless. Laura will begin on July 1, 2020.
